Netherlands to observe Intn’l Yoga Day on June 17
Amsterdam, Jun 6 : Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, violinist L Subramaniam and Bollywood singer Kavita Krishnamurthy will participate in an international celebration of yoga to be held in the Netherlands this month, the Indian Embassy announced today.
The prestigious Museumplein in Amsterdam, the capital, will host the largest international celebration of Yoga Day held in the Netherlands on 17 June. A number of Dutch and Indian dignitaries are expected at this event.
The celebration, organized at the initiative of the Embassy of India, will include a wellness festival with massive yoga demonstrations, meditation sessions, music, dance and vegetarian as well as food vegan.
The event will be inaugurated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen; Amsterdam Mayor Jozias van Aartsen, spiritual guru Shankar and India’s ambassador to the Netherlands, came Rajamony, said.
After the inauguration, there will be a group session on traditional Indian yoga, followed by a discussion and meditation session led by Shankar.
The yoga demonstrations will then be interspersed with cultural programs on Indian dance and music for the rest of the day, the statement said.
The well-known Dutch yoga teacher, Johan Noorloos, will lead a workshop with Patty Jogenmaets of Dolfijn Wellness Amsterdam, who will be hosting a special family yoga session for parents and children.
Food trucks providing vegetarian and vegan food and non-alcoholic beverages will cater to visitors throughout the day, he added.
The grand finale of the evening will be a music concert entitled “The Soul Shanti Concert” featuring Subramaniam and singer Krishnamurthy.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 11, 2014 at the initiative of India, declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
The resolution calls on governments and people around the world to observe this day and raise awareness of the benefits of yoga.
